Standard Visitor Visa applications:

Whether you’re wanting to come to the UK as a tourist, for academic appointments or to receive private medical treatment, if you’re from outside the EEA, you will be required to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa.

A Standard Visitor Visa will permit you to stay in the UK for up to 6 months, however, in some cases, the length of your visa can be extended. One example of circumstances that would lead to an extension would be if you’re coming to the UK to receive private medical treatment and the treatment will be longer than 6 months. In addition to this, you can also receive an extension if you regularly visit the UK over an extended period of time and if you’re participating in academic research whilst in the UK.

Currently, a Standard Visitor Visa will be applicable to anyone who wants to travel to the UK for the following purposes:

• Leisure purposes
• Business appointments
• Academic conferences
• Participating in sporting events
• Participating in creative or artistic work
• Receiving private medical treatment

In addition to the above, you can come to the UK for business-related purposes with a Standard Visitor Visa if you’re:

• Attending a business conference or training
• Coming to the UK to carry out academic work
• Participating in sporting events
• A medical professional coming to the UK to carry out a clinical attachment or observation
• Wanting to apply for funding to start or run a UK business as a potential entrepreneur
• Coming to the UK to take one of the following tests: Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) or the Objective Structural Clinical Examination (OSCE)
