DEAL WITH MY ACCIDENT: TOP TIPS WHEN MAKING A CLAIM
Have you been involved in a road traffic collision? When it comes to making an insurance claim, it is important that you’re aware of what to do to ensure that the process runs as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
Our top tips for making a claim:
1. Ensure that you have all of the details of everyone involved in the collision
This information includes the registration plate of the car, the name, and address of the other driver involved, phone numbers of any other driver involved, the car insurance details of the other driver, the make and model of the car and photographs of any damages.
2. Provide your car insurer with the above-mentioned details as soon as possible
To ensure that you have been given the correct details, we recommend that you request to see the other drivers driving license to confirm their name and address. If the other driver is uninsured, you will need to report the incident to the police as it is a legal requirement for all drivers in the UK to have insurance – you will also need to make your insurance company aware of this as they will be able to advise you accordingly. We also recommend informing your insurance company of the date and time of the collision, the weather conditions at the time and how the collision happened. If you have taken pictures of any damages, it is important to pass these onto your insurance company.
3. Unless you’re confident that the collision was your fault, do not admit any liability at the scene of the accident.
It is important to be aware that if you apologise in any way, you may be considered to be admitting liability.
Once you have informed your insurance company of the incident, we highly encourage you to not accept any of their offers without getting in contact with us first – we will always have your best interest at heart and will work hard to provide you with maximum compensation, whereas insurance companies are more interested in getting the best deal for the shareholders, not the claimants.
