DEAL WITH MY ACCIDENT: TOP 10 TIPS TO DRIVING SAFELY THIS WINTER
Tuesday, December 5, 2017
With the nights getting darker and the weather getting notably colder, it's important that you adapt your driving to the conditions around you, and this is why we've compiled together our top tips for driving in the snow and general winter weather:
1. Accelerate and decelerate slowly to avoid skidding on icy/snowy surfaces
2. Drive and complete any manoeuvres slowly
3. Ensure that you leave enough space to slow down as the speed to slow down and stop your vehicle takes at least double the amount of time that it does in dry conditions
4. Try and avoid coming to a complete halt if possible it will take a lot longer to start moving again if you stop.
5. Don't stop or apply too much gas when going up a hill - if you stop, it will be much harder to try and start moving again. If you apply too much gas, it may cause your wheels to spin.
6. Always look and steer where you want to go
7. Don't use cruise control
8. Keep your gas tank at least half-full to avoid a gas line freeze-up
9. Ensure that your tyres are properly inflated
10. Stay at home when it's possible to do so
